APEP is a private equity investment manager specialized in indirect investments. The firm invests globally in primary and secondary buyout funds, as well as in venture capital funds, with a focus on Europe and Asia. Historically the firm has also selectively co-invested in direct investments. APEP either invests in new funds or purchases interests in portfolios on a secondary basis. The firm generally becomes the lead investor and takes up a seat on the advisory board of the funds in which they invest. They leverage the knowledge and contacts of the Allianz group. The firm's fund selection criteria include a management team with substantial private equity experience, a strong position in their target market, a track record of sound investments backed by thorough due diligence, a demonstrated ability to create value at portfolio level and a history of successful past exits. APEP's investment approach is bottom up within a portfolio design framework based on risk, return and currency characteristics.
