Steve Woit

Mr. Steve Woit is a Member at CommonAngels, Inc. He has been a member of CommonAngels since 1999.
He is the founder of Riga Ventures and an investor in software and Internet-based businesses.
He is also the Founding Publisher and a Director of Xconomy, a new media company covering local developments in the technology, life sciences and greentech industries in the leading high technology clusters.
He was an early investor and EVP Sales and Marketing at Bitpipe, a CommonAngels portfolio company acquired by TechTarget, Inc. in December 2004.
He served as an Advisor to Carbonite, another CommonAngels investment.
His other portfolio companies include 02138 Magazine, a publication serving the Harvard alumni community (sold to The Atlantic in 2006), Quova, the leading Internet geolocation company in the world, based in Mountain View, CA, and DigitalAdvisor, a spin-off from IAC's TripAdvisor, Inc. Previously, he worked as Vice President, Content for RoweCom, the leading global e-commerce company selling business content on the Internet, building out its management, content catalogs, and publisher relations functions leading to its successful IPO in March 1999.
Prior to joining RoweCom, Mr. Woit worked for 17 years (from 1980 to 1998) with International Data Group (IDG), where he worked for IDG's Chairman Patrick J.
McGovern, was a General Partner at IDG Ventures, IDG's venture capital partnership, and previously served as Publisher and President of Federal Computer Week, President of Web Shopper, EVP of Computerworld and Director of Business Development and Vice President/New Products for IDG worldwide.
He serves on the Board of Directors of Greentech Media and Xconomy as well as the Advisory Board for the MIT Museum and the Board of the Cary Memorial Library Foundation in Lexington.
Mr. Woit is a graduate of Yale University and of the Harvard Radcliffe Publishing Program, Harvard University's post-graduate publishing program.
