Matthew Marchel

Matthew Marchel joined Energy Foundry in 2020 as a Venture Director.
He is focused on advising Energy Foundry’s portfolio firms and identifying new investment opportunities.
Matthew is the CEO and Managing Director of Smiley Capital Partners, an early-stage investment and executive advising firm with a focus on the space where digital and materials meet.
Prior to his current role, Matthew spent over a decade at the Dow Chemical Company.
He held multiple roles including leading Dow’s Building and Construction business, Divisional CFO, and Director of Strategy.
A seasoned executive, he held additional senior roles in marketing and supply chain.
Earlier in his career, he worked for Linamar Corporation as a Sales Executive in the automotive sector.
Matthew’s other experience includes engineering and program management at Rochester Sales.
He is a founder of Thinkmatics, an education technology company that builds critical thinking and math mastery for middle school and high school students.
Matthew received a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University.
