Ecofin specializes in investments in the global utilities and infrastructure sectors. They manage hedge funds, long-only funds, long-only mandates and invest through both public equities and private situations. They also invest in emerging markets. The firm targets companies engaged in the electric power, gas distribution, water, water treatment, waste management and energy transmission industries. Ecofin also follows companies involved in the supply of equipment, technology or services to utility companies that engage in commodity-related businesses supplying utility companies and companies in the alternative energy sector. Ecofin is research-driven and has a strong in-house research capability and extensive contacts in the utilities industry. Their portfolios are reasonably concentrated and the firm often takes relatively large positions in smaller companies. Ecofin combines top-down macro analysis and bottom-up company fundamental research to make investment decisions. They develop investment theses using both catalyst events and mismatches between valuation and stock price. On the macro side, Ecofin considers a variety of factors including economic activities, interest rates, commodity prices and the regulatory environment. They also assess the sensitivity of sub-sectors to these macro drivers. In addition, Ecofin leverages their global platform and their dedicated commodity research efforts. Launched in October 2004, the Ecofin Global Utilities Master Fund Limited is incorporated in the Cayman Islands with two feeder funds, the Ecofin Global Utilities Hedge Fund Limited, a Cayman Islands corporation listed on the Irish Stock Exchange, and the Ecofin Global Utilities Hedge Fund LP, a Delaware limited partnership. The Master Fund is a long/short equity fund which invests in the equity and equity-related securities of utility and utility-related companies in the UK, the Euro-zone, North America, other OECD countries and, to a limited extent, in emerging markets. Launched in May 2006, the Ecofin Special Situations Utilities Master Fund Limited is Cayman Island corporation Islands with two feeder funds, Ecofin Special Situations Utilities Fund Limited and Ecofin Special Situations Utilities Fund LP, a Delaware limited partnership. The Master Fund is a long/short equity fund which invests in the equity and equity-related securities of utility and utility-related companies in the UK, the Euro-zone, North America, other OECD countries and, to a limited extent, in emerging markets. The Master Fund may invest up to 75% of its net assets in special situations. Launched in August 2007, the Ecofin North American Utilities Master Fund Limited is a Cayman Islands corporation with two feeder funds, Ecofin North American Utilities Fund Limited, a Cayman Islands corporation listed on the Irish Stock Exchange, and Ecofin North American Utilities Fund LP, a Delaware limited partnership. The Master Fund is a long/short equity fund which invests in the equity and equity-related securities of utility and utility-related companies, mainly in North America. Launched in July 2009, the Ecofin China Power & Infrastructure Fund employs a long-biased, long/short equity strategy. The Fund focuses on investments in large-cap, liquid public equities. The Fund seeks to generate absolute returns through dynamic portfolio construction and sector allocation based on macro and fundamental research.
