It was initiated by members of the El Dorado Community Round Table on Human Rights and led by Joan Stek and the late Mitch Finberg. The organization received support from various sectors including grassroots, Parks and Rec, Public Health, Law Enforcement, Marshall Hospital, local government, and the education community. The first doors of the Club were opened in 1997 at the Armory, and since then, the organization has grown to serve 500 kids daily between the ages of 5 and 18 at four locations on the Western Slope.
