Cassell is currently the Director & EVP-TB Drug Development at Infectious Disease Research Institute and an Independent Director at Alopexx, Inc. She is also a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Inc., the National Academy of Medicine (United States), and the American Academy of Microbiology.
Previously, she was the Vice President-Infectious Diseases Drug Discovery at Eli Lilly & Co. and a Professor at The University of Alabama School of Medicine.
She also held positions as a Member-Management Board at the National Institutes of Health, a Member-Scientific Board at the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, and as the President of the American Society for Microbiology.
Cassell received her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama and her doctorate from The University of Alabama at Birmingham.
