Sectoral is a fundamentals-based, medium- to long-term, GARP-oriented manager which focuses on companies in the healthcare (Pharmaceuticals, Generics, Biotechs and Medtechs) sector. They aim to achieve superior returns for investors by concentrating on primary research. The firm conducts preliminary research and analysis, including literature and documentation, interaction with companies and with Sectoral's Advisory Network, to identify investment candidates. They then conduct forecasting and scenario analyses, testing a range of assumptions and success factors critical to the company's success. They subsequently generate realistic valuation ranges for potential investments and assess the impact of the investment on the overall risk/return profile of the portfolio. They believe that specific risk is the most important risk component and have developed and refined their investment process to mitigate it. Their analysts attempt to determine the fair value for investment candidates as well as 1-year and 3-year price targets. Depending on the development stage of the company, they utilize models such as discounted cash-flow models, EBITDA models, classical growth models (PE approach), enterprise value/sales and peer group analysis to determine the price targets. Sectoral makes recommendations based on the resulting fair value to the current market value of each investment candidate and constructs portfolios comprised of analysts' investment recommendations.
