Roy Vagelos was the founder of Innoviva, Inc. founded in 1996 where he held the title of Chairman from 1996 to 2010.
He currently holds positions as Director at the International Biomedical Research Alliance, Trustee-Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, Member of the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Arts & Sciences, National Academy of Medicine (United States), American Philosophical Society, The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, and Trustee-Emeritus at Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Vagelos's former positions include Chairman, President & Co-Chief Executive Officer at Merck & Co., Inc. from 1986 to 1994, Chief Executive Officer at Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp.
from 1985 to 1994, and Chairman at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 1995 to 2023.
He also held positions as Chairman at the University of Washington, Co-Chairman at New Jersey Performing Arts Center Corp., Director at The Danforth Foundation, and National Math & Science Initiative, Inc. Dr. Vagelos's education includes a doctorate degree from The Trustees of Columbia University in The City of New York in 1954 and an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
