The Tahltan Central Government (TCG) is the administrative and representative governing body of the Tahltan Nation, which includes approximately 5,000 members primarily from the Iskut and Tahltan bands. The private company is based in Dease Lake, Canada. The TCG manages a traditional territory of about 95,933 km² and focuses on ecosystem stewardship, natural resource management, sustainable economic development, and cultural wellness rooted in traditional Tahltan values. It is governed by a board representing ten Tahltan families and an elected executive team, and operates departments overseeing education, wildlife, fisheries, lands, language and culture, membership, employment, and communications. The TCG upholds the 1910 Declaration of the Tahltan Tribe asserting sovereignty and works toward reconciliation and shared decision-making agreements with provincial authorities. Key initiatives include the Tahltan Stewardship Plan for land care and conservation, the establishment of Indigenous protected and conserved areas, and collaborative wildlife and habitat management. The TCG also supports community development through education and training funding, business promotion, and employment opportunities, and provides resources for language preservation, cultural materials, and community engagement.
