Mr. Joseph W.
Wittrock, CFA MBA, is a Senior Vice President & Chief Investment Officer at Security Benefit Life Insurance Co. He joined the firm in 2014.
He is responsible for the management of Security Benefit’s investment and derivative portfolios.
He leads an investment team of more than 100 professionals spanning investment management, derivatives, and investment operations.
The Security Benefit investment team has consistently delivered the best investment returns in the U.S.
life insurance industry while the derivative team is an acknowledged industry leader and value creator.
Prior to joining Security Benefit, Mr. Wittrockwas with Aviva, where he served in a number of investment management leadership roles.
He served as Chief Investment Officer for Aviva USA where he was responsible for a $60 billion asset portfolio and a $25 billion notional derivative portfolio, and Head of Fixed Income Credit Research for Aviva Investors North America, where he led the organization's credit team for a $30 billion portfolio across various credit strategies including investment grade, high yield, bank loans, and synthetic credit, including long/short.
He began his career at Aviva in 2000, assisting in the management of high yield, distressed credit and emerging market hard currency sovereign strategies.
He earned his MBA, with honors, from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and his bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Buena Vista University.
He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute and has earned the right to use the CFA designation.
