Bhattacharya is currently the Chairman of Utkal Alumina International Ltd. and the Director of International Aluminium Institute.
He is also serving as an Independent Non-Executive Director at NOCIL Ltd. Additionally, he holds director positions at Mahan Coal Ltd., Birla Management Centre Service Ltd., Aditya Birla Science & Technology Co. Ltd., and Minerals & Minerals Ltd. In his former roles, Mr. Bhattacharya served as the Non-Executive Vice Chairman of Hindalco Industries Ltd. from 2003 to 2022.
He was also the Vice Chairman of Novelis, Inc. from 2007 to 2022.
Furthermore, he held the position of Non-Executive Chairman at Cupric Pty Ltd. from 2003 to 2016.
He has also held various director positions at Hind Lever Chemicals Ltd, Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Indo Gulf Corp.

Mr. Bhattacharya completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Presidency College.
