Akira Kawamoto

He joined the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1981 and retired in 2012.

Since 1995 he has been involved in a four-year regulatory reform project at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD, Paris).
After returning to Japan, he has been working as a practical manager on important policy issues in Japan at each period, such as the White Paper on Trade, the liberalization of electricity, the formulation of the Science and Technology Basic Plan, and the National Council for Social Security, and has achieved good results.
In 2009, he was Deputy Director General of the Minister's Secretariat (In charge of Economic and Social Policy, Industrial Policy Bureau), and since 2010 he has been seconded to the Corporate Revitalization Support Organization and engaged in corporate revitalization work as a managing executive officer.
Since April 2013, he has been a professor at Keio University Faculty of Economics.
His books "Why Japan Can't Implement Reforms" (Nikkei Publishing Co., Ltd., April 2013), "Regulatory Reforms" (Chuko Shinsho) and many others.
He is an outside director at Future Co., Ltd. and Onward Holdings Co., Ltd.
